We are excited to announce that John Brothers will become Charles & Margery Barancik Foundation’s next President and CEO, effective December 1.

John brings decades of diverse experience in philanthropic leadership and nonprofit management, and he is regarded as a pioneer in the area of trust-based philanthropy.  He most recently served as President of T. Rowe Price Foundation and T. Rowe Price Charitable, where he oversaw more than $750 million in combined assets and more than $150 million in annual giving.  In this role, John worked with a global network of thousands of grantees, donors, and community partners, while also creating or leading a long list of award-winning, place-based initiatives at the community level.

He started his career as a case manager and youth worker in neighborhoods in the Midwest, formative experience that continues to inform his leadership and approach to philanthropy.

John will take over from our start-up CEO, Teri A Hansen, who over the last decade has shaped Barancik Foundation into the trusted philanthropic partner and influential regional leader it is today.  Teri was the first employee hired by Chuck and Margie Barancik back in 2015, and she considers it the honor of her more than 30-year career in philanthropy to have built the structure and team to support the organizations they loved in perpetuity.

“Our Board is confident that John will lead us to new levels of community impact as Barancik Foundation’s next chief executive,” said Rebecca Harris Barancik, Board Chair of Barancik Foundation.  “He has the vision to build on Teri’s incredible foundational work as we continue to realize Chuck and Margie’s belief that philanthropy can make a meaningful difference in the lives of all people.”

John’s selection was the result of a comprehensive national search conducted by Barancik Foundation’s Board of Directors and facilitated by Kittleman & Associates.  The highly competitive search drew hundreds of applicants from all over the country, a testament to the reputation and results of the Foundation.

Philanthropic Leader, Nonprofit CEO, Social Entrepreneur

As President of both T. Rowe Price Foundation and T. Rowe Price Charitable from 2015 through earlier this year, Brothers led the firm’s philanthropic giving, community affairs, investment practices, and philanthropic services business.  He grew assets from $125 million to more than $750 million and developed a pioneering global model for corporate social good.  He also oversaw an extensive list of impactful, place-based initiatives in communities where T. Rowe Price Foundation works, including Baltimore’s Elevation Awards, One Book Baltimore, Baltimore Children and Youth Fund, food-security initiatives, a resource-navigation platform for artists, and a State of the Sector Report on the nonprofit landscape, to name just a few.

“I am deeply inspired by Barancik Foundation’s commitment to trusting and empowering local communities, because that is where lasting change starts,” he said.  “I am also grateful to the Barancik Foundation Board and to Teri and her team for trusting me with the continued work of honoring the Baranciks’ legacy.”

Prior to T. Rowe Price, John was the founder and managing partner of Quidoo, an international consulting firm that provided leadership and management capacity-building services to philanthropy, nonprofits, and government agencies.  He also served as a Senior Fellow in Executive Leadership at the Support Center for Nonprofit Management, a Visiting Fellow at Harvard University’s Hauser Center for Nonprofit Organizations, and a management and social policy professor at New York University and Rutgers University.  Brothers began his career as a case manager and youth worker in neighborhoods in the Midwest, essential experience that continues to guide and inform his work and leadership.

Humility, Integrity, and Courage

“I am excited to turn the reins over to John, whose deep professional experience, coupled with his values of humility, courage, and trust, will position him perfectly to lead Barancik Foundation onward and upward,” said current President and CEO Teri A Hansen.  “It was an honor helping Chuck and Margie create their lasting legacy in our community, and I am grateful to the Board and staff for their unwavering support of that legacy.”

Teri is working closely with John to ensure a seamless leadership transition in December.  She will leave her own indelible legacy, having transformed Barancik Foundation into an organization that has exceeded even the dreams that Chuck and Margie had for their philanthropy.

Under Teri’s leadership, the Foundation built an endowment of nearly $800 million and is recognized as an influential leader in the region and a trusted partner of nonprofit organizations throughout Sarasota, Manatee, and DeSoto counties and beyond.
